This article of course uses the general standpoint of Nigerian music as a point of view. With the lights of rising Afro-beats in view having seen features and global recognition from artistes like Drake and Tinie Tempah. Afro-beats in particular have a particularly fast paced beat and cascading theme, if you are familiar with artistes with the likes of Davido and Burna Boy, you can attest to that.
Seemingly these are all fast paced jams which are the general view of the entire public, in Nigeria in particular one might begin to notice quite the massive fan base Alternative/Indie singer Billie Elish has racked up. This is not to say that the country doesn’t have a taste for soft or emo songs what with the likes of hit singers like Asa and even Darey but atill Billie’s music is a far end from the norm of African or better still, Nigerian music but yet the love for her music is massive. Born in December 18th 2001, she rose to the limelight with her debut ‘Ocean Eyes’ and since then the 20 year old singer has racked up to six grammy awards and in the year 2019, MTV video music award for best new artiste.
Unknown to the media or maybe even known the singer has a massive fan base in Nigeria which could be due to a break from conventional mainstream music. Her songs as darkly as they come off strikes at the heart of music lovers.
Billie Elish is in the works for dropping her new album ‘Happier than Ever’.
